Shri Krishna said, "As long as Drona has weapons in his hands, we have no hope of winning. If he remains on the battlefield, and continues to fight in this manner, our army will be destroyed by sunset."
Yudhishthira said, "What should we do now?"
Shri Krishna replied, "We must think of a plan to make him lay down his weapons."
"But will Dronacharya, who is fighting with such passion, lay down his weapons?" wondered Bheema.
Shri Krishna explained his plan to them, and said, "If Drona hears from Yudhishthira that his son Ashwatthama is killed, he will at once lay down his weapons."
"How can I tell this utter lie?" thought Yudhishthira. "I have never lied in my life."
