Suddenly Scrooge became nostalgic. “How could I forget my childhood so much?”
A sad look spread across his face as he sat at his old desk.
He tried to speak but the words stuck at the back of his throat.
“What is it?” asked the Spirit.
“Oh, nothing,” mumbled Scrooge. “But I would have liked to have given something to that man I saw yesterday. To be a child alone at Christmas is very hard.”
