Then, without warning, the giant took him to see Fred, his nephew. Both of them were not visible to the gathering there.
Scrooge had never seen such a happy meal. Everybody laughed, drank and played.
Suddenly one of the guests laughed at the absence of Scrooge.
Fred jumped to his uncle's defense. "My dear friend, he is to be pitied rather than blamed."
This sign of affection moved Scrooge. "He has a good heart just like his mother had," he murmured.
