A poor working woman in Baghdad, while coming back from work caught a hen one day and brought it home . She wanted to use the hen to make chicken meat broth the next day.
As she lived in a single room she left the hen to roam around her room. Imagine her surprise when she found a silver egg lying on the floor the net day.
She kept a close watch on the hen and made sure that the hen was laying the silver egg. After making sure she wanted the hen to lay more than one egg a day so that she could get rich fast. The woman decided that this could be done by feeding the hen more than what it needed.
She started feeding the hen every hour under her supervision and the hen got fatter and fatter.The hen became so fat that it was not able to move by itself and stopped laying eggs altogether. The woman then started starving the hen to bring it back to her original shape.
The hen died of starvation, leaving the woman cursing herself for her deed driven by greed.
