THE DOG
Dogs generally, do not bite if they are not provoked. But there was a dog who was in the habit of chasing and biting people. He bit whoever came within the range of his jaws.
His master hung a little bell on the collar around its neck, so that everybody would be warned of the dog's approach and could take care not to come close to its fearsome teeth and powerful jaws.
The dog was very proud of the little bell and liked to boast that the tinkle of it scared men away, and his master had put the bell on his collar in apparition.
A wise old however responded, " My vain friend, sit down and think. The bell resounds to your shame and not your glory!"
