THE FOUR FRIENDS.
In a remote village in Rajasthan, India there once lived four friends. Three of them were very learned, always trying to show off their knowledge, whilst the fourth though not learned possessed a lot of common sense. He was more practically oriented than his friends were.
One day they set off to go to a far off city where they hoped to make their fortunes. On the way to the city was the 'GIR' forest, which they had to cross.
On their way they came across a heap of bones. These were the bones of a dead lion.
On seeing these bones one of learned the friends said," With the help of my learning's I can put the bones together."
The second learned friend said," With the help of my learning's I can fill the skeleton with flesh and blood, and cover it with skin so that it will look just like when it was alive."
The third learned friend said, "Well with the help of my learning, I can breathe life back into the reconstructed dead animal."
The fourth friend, who was more practically oriented said, "No no, do not reconstruct and bring the lion back to life. This may endanger our lives."
The three learned friends did not heed their friend's advice. They were bent upon showing their learning's to each other.
One of them said to the fourth," You are only jealous of us and our learning's and that is why you are advising us not to use our learning."
The three learned friends engaged themselves in showing off their learning, and ignored their friend's advice. The fourth friend upon seeing this ran as fast as his legs could carry and climbed up a tall tree at a distance.
He watched from his safe haven, as the first of his friends joined the bones of the dead animal. The second filled the bones with flesh, blood and covered it with skin and hair. The third then breathed life into it.
As soon as the lion came to life, he roared, and pounced upon the three friends and killed them in the twinkling of an eye. It then went to the tree where the fourth was holed up and kept going around it but finally left.
The fourth friend thus saved his life.
