THE THUMB.
Hello children. Listen to this story that I just made up.

Long ago all the four fingers and the thumb lived together on the same side of the hand. They stayed and played together. One day they saw a ring lying on a table.
The first finger said, "Oh what a beautiful ring this is!"
The second finger eager to have the ring said, "It seems that the ring will fit me perfectly."
The third finger said, "Let us take the ring."
The fourth finger said, "Yes let us take it before anyone else sees it or the owner takes it away."
All four fingers together were in a great hurry to pick up the ring.
The fifth finger opposed to the views of the others said, " This ring does not belong to us, we should not take it."
"Hey! Nobody will know who has taken the ring. Let us pick it up quickly and go," said all the others in a chorus.
The fifth finger said, " That will amount to stealing. We should not steal."
The other four fingers were however unanimous in their want and belief that the ring should be taken by them. They made fun of the honesty and beliefs of the fifth finger.
The first finger said to her, "You are a coward."
"And that too and honest one!" said the second.
The third finger said, " You are so fat that you know the ring will not fit you and that is why you are pretending to be honest."
'And we foolishly thought that you were our friend!" said the fourth.
Inspite of all the harsh words and pressures put on her by her friends the fifth finger stuck to her honest views. Refusing to join them in stealing the ring, she told them, " You are free to do as you like. You may laugh at me and call me names but I will not join or support you in this dishonest deed."
"Then you will not be allowed to live with us," said the other four.
The four fingers then forcefully pushed the fifth finger away from them. They refused to stay on the same side of the hand with her. She was thrown out of the finger club and since then she is called the THUMB.
It from that day that the thumb prefers to remain separate from the other four fingers, but whenever any work needs to be done she joins in with the others, but otherwise she always preserves her distinct identity. The middle finger always wears a ring whenever it has one.
Note: Because human beings have an opposing finger known as a thumb, they can grip things and manipulate tools and objects with precision.
